Project Updates

On the 31st March 2023, Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd submitted a planning application to An Bord Pleanála (ABP) for the proposed project. In response to submissions received in respect of this planning application, Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd. provided Additional Information to ABP. ABP has deemed this to be significant additional information.

This significant additional information, together with the original planning application documentation, Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS), may be inspected free of charge or purchased on payment of a specified fee (which shall not exceed the reasonable cost of making such a copy) during public opening hours for a period of 3 weeks commencing on the 22nd January 2024 at the following locations:

  • The Offices of An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, D01 V902 (9:15am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday)
  • The Offices of Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan, Co. Meath, C15 Y291 (9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday)
  • The Offices of Westmeath County Council, Aras An Chontae, Mount St, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. (9:30am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday)

On 05th of April 2023, Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd submitted a planning application to An Bord Pleanála (ABP) for the proposed Ballivor Wind Farm.

A copy of the planning application, the Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement may be viewed for inspection at the following locations:

  • Offices of Westmeath County Council, Aras an Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath
  • Offices of Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Rd, Navan, Co. Meath, C15 Y291
  • Offices of An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough St, Rotunda, Dublin 1

To coincide with the submission of the planning application a dedicated planning website has also been launched. The application may be viewed at/downloaded from that website at the following link: www.ballivorwindfarmplanning.ie .

Bord na Móna has published the revised layout for the proposed Ballivor Wind Farm.  The revised proposal, for which the company intend to seek planning permission in early 2022, comprises 26 turbines with an overall tip height of 200 metres. It is also intended to construct a substation to facilitate access to the National Grid for the proposed development.

The proposed wind farm will consist of approximately 28km of internal road network, approximately 23.5kms of which is intended for amenity use when the wind farm becomes operational. An additional 4km (approx..) of local amenity links are also proposed to provide connectivity to local roads and allow local access to the wind farm amenity.

Bord na Móna will be holding Community Engagement Clinics in mid-September in the locality to discuss the draft layout with residents.

To ensure social distancing measures are adhered to, these clinics will be held by appointment only and will be restricted to up to three people per household at any one time.

In order to ensure the safety of both staff and members of the public due to Covid-19, Bord na Móna will be holding Community Engagement Clinics in mid- September in the locality to discuss the draft layout with residents.

  3. A feedback sheet – should you wish to submit any comments on the draft layout
